A Book Review: Nothing to Prove by Jennie Allen

I am a recovering achiever. I was raised in a family of Filipino-Italian immigrants of the pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps variety. I attended a college prep school from elementary through high school. As I was growing up, I raced from piano lessons to dance lessons to theater productions to year-round sports events. I was the editor of the ... [Keep Reading...]

Book Review: How The Broken Way leads to abundance

I remember that day so vividly. We were at a luncheon as part of the Justice Conference in Chicago. She was on a panel sharing about her experiences on a recent trip visiting women in crisis in the Middle East. The place cleared out pretty quickly after lunch as people rushed off to the next workshops. I spotted her near the stage with a few other ... [Keep Reading...]

How Counting Gifts Transformed My Heart

I opened my door on that blustery February morning and there it was – a book tied with a pale blue ribbon. I could see the now iconic cover with the picture of a robin’s nest holding two blue eggs. I traced the title script, One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are by Ann Voskamp. My heart-friend had placed this gift on my ... [Keep Reading...]

As image bearers, we can reflect God’s glory to As image bearers, we can reflect God’s glory to the world in ways no other part of creation can. God deeply values us, and we have the opportunity to value other human beings of all sizes, shapes, heights, weights, personality types, and skin tones.
.
My flourishing depends on the flourishing of my brothers and sisters, my neighbors, family, and friends. If someone lashes out against a Black sister because of the color of her skin, we all suffer. If someone treats a Latina sister as “less than,” we all hurt. If someone overlooks an Indigenous sister, we all miss out. If someone attacks an Asian American elder, we all grieve because an image bearer of God has been struck down.
.
When racism is expressed in the world, we all need to be affected. Racism does not just affect individuals; it affects all communities. We are created as interdependent beings. We cannot flourish in isolation. We can only flourish together in community.
.
Friends, let’s keep each other’s best interest in mind and value each other as part of our extended family.
.
Let’s stand up and speak up when we see others from God’s family being devalued or harmed.
.
Let’s walk together and treat each person like an image bearer of God to be treasured.

🌸 It’s Women’s History Month! I’m deeply 🌸 It’s Women’s History Month! I’m deeply grateful for the women who have raised me, mentored me, challenged me, and inspired me through the years.
.
I think about my Mama Maria, my Grandma Sara, my Grandma Cora, my Sunday School teacher Eunice, my Resident Director Jen, and my mentor-friend Michelle - all of whom influenced my spiritual growth.
.
As a mama of three girls, I’m always thinking about how I have the opportunity to model and mentor. I have to be attentive to how I treat my body and tend to my soul because these three beauties bear witness. If I want them to be courageous and compassionate, I have to step into it myself. If I want them to be servant leaders, I have to show them the path.
.
👉🏽Who are the women who have influenced and are influencing you? Let’s celebrate some of the women in our lives who we admire, love, and cherish! Tag a friend, mentor, or daughter and express your gratitude! 🧑🏻‍⚕️👩🏾‍🍳👩🏼‍💼👩🏽‍🔬👩🏼‍🌾🧑🏻‍🎨👩🏻‍🚒👩🏻‍✈️

🥳 It’s podcast day!!! 🎧 Walk Run Soar is a 🥳 It’s podcast day!!! 🎧 Walk Run Soar is a podcast about the intersection of faith and running. We help runners and walkers who lack purpose with their exercise routine (or lack of routine) and long to experience God in a more meaningful way while they walk or run. 👉🏽In this episode, we interviewed Latasha Ferguson, who is a speaker, writer, podcaster (Overcome to Become Podcast), and ministry leader. We love her challenge to partner with God on our health and wholeness journeys. We chatted about:
👉🏽 how running helped her overcome adversity
👉🏽modeling a healthy lifestyle for her four daughters
👉🏽 how to get started if you’re a newbie

🥇 Eric won the gold medal in the 1924 Paris Olympics in the 400 meters. Eric understood that running was not for his personal glory and to win medals. He felt God’s pleasure when he ran because he was doing what God designed him to do. He also was designed to become a missionary to China. {Read more of his story in my new book, Walk Run Soar and Episode 7 of the Walk Run Soar podcast!}

🏞 This weekend I felt God’s pleasure running with my people. My friends and family completed The Diamond 10K! My girls ran the Kids Race, and I completed the Double Diamond Challenge. That was one 10k on our neighborhood Clovis Trail and one 10k on the stunning Winchell Cove Trail at Millerton Lake. We created our own finish line and my parents met us with our medals and water. Oh, and a homemade waffle and bacon breakfast to boot!
.
💎 So many races have been canceled in the last year. It was truly a joy to run! A huge shout out to Endure Jewelry & Sunny Arada for planning an awesome virtual race with the best swag!

💎💎This week I ran the Double Diamond Challenge, which was two 10ks! This is my favorite time of the year to run in Central California. The air is fresh and cool. The hills are verdant. The wildflowers are just beginning to twirl their skirts along the trails. The sky and water come together in a kind of blue slow dance. All glimpses of God’s glory! 🌸
.
My friend Amber and I ran on the Winchell Cove Trail at Millerton Lake. Donning our sparkly silver Endure hats, we got in the miles and the soul care today. And this is what makes me feel most alive! 🏃🏽‍♀️
